spinosaurus

if you’re ever looking for some spicy drama in the paleontology world, spinosaurus is the dinosaur to follow. not only do scientists keep disagreeing about every conceivable aspect of the dino, but it seems like every few months there’s some big new discovery that completely rewrites everything we thought we knew about it and adds more fuel to the fire.

we once thought spino was basically just a fat t-rex with a sail on its back, then a giant bipedal murder-crocodile (like in jurassic park 3), then a knuckle-walking fish-eater, and now a bipedal ambush-predator who likes to take the occassional cruise down the river. that paddle-like tail was only discovered in early 2020, and we still don’t even know what the purpose of the giant sail on its back was.

i can only assume scientists have a “no talking about spinosaurus” policy every christmas dinner.

finally another slice of life illustration! these are way easier than drawing dinosaurs or spaceships.

this one probably doesn’t have as nice colours or composition as some of my other illustrations, but i sure had a blast adding all the little easter eggs around sedna’s room (i wonder if any rocket nerds will notice anything… familiar about some of sedna’s rocket designs). :P

ako’s hero

if the movie cast away taught me anything, it’s that you can totally have a non-living character who’s entire personality is projected on them by someone else. so i’m making it a personal challenge to get at least one person to decide ako is their favourite character, without ever bringing her to life.

that and to eventually make toy akos. i really want a toy ako.

history of mars rovers

great scott! it’s a 5-panel comic! is that even legal?

the history of mars rovers is way too interesting to compress into one tiny comic strip (and yet i tried anyway), so i hope you all go on a wikipedia/youtube binge to learn all the juicy details. the fact that we humans have put multiple science vehicles on another freaking planet is absolutely ridiculous, and i hope we can eventually one-up ourselves and land actual people on mars, ideally some time within the next 2-3 million years. [glares at nasa]

also, i’m officially sick of drawing rovers now. they are actually the worst.

so while we’re still living off the high of watching nasa soft-land a science car on another freaking planet (or at least i am), you all get to enjoy some comics about sedna and her little rover “ako”.

given i drew and uploaded these months ago, words cannot express how relieved i am that percy didn’t splatter on the surface of mars and age all my comics poorly before they were even released. thanks nasa. appreciate it.

fact: anything you can completely cover with your thumb does not at all matter (i.e. literally everything if you stand back far enough). it’s called the jim lovell principle, and it’s definitely a real thing that i didn’t make up just now. ◑.◑

maybe this is why sedna never lets dini get more than a few steps away from her. (´ω`*)

poor yuri. too loyal for her own good. lucky she has some impressive english vocabulary and upper body strength for a bunny.

funny story: when i drew this comic i looked up reference images for cordless drills, and i’m still getting stupid cordless drill ads months later. seriously google, please leave me alone.

sedna is determined to try every possible avenue of getting out of doing this homework… except for actually doing it.

hope you mates all have a happy new year. yeah i know 2020 doesn’t exactly have a glowing reputation by this point, but at least we got a whole bunch of exciting rocket launches out of it. i’ll see you all again in 2021, when hopefully we get even more rocket launches!

…and less plague. that would be nice too.
