ancient

it’s easy to think of the ancient egyptians as living at the dawn of civilisation and ourselves as living closer to the end of it, but on a universal scale, we are still the ancient egyptians.

also if you’re baffled by how long 100 trillion years is and want me to put it into perspective: imagine 1 trillion years. now multiply that by 100. there.

death of a star

obviously this is a much more complex and interesting subject than i could possibly squeeze into a four panel comic, so i highly recommend you go watch the episode of ‘crash course astronomy’ on youtube about high mass stars.

also in case you thought i made a mistake with the timeline, no, a smaller star actually lasts much much longer than a larger star, as it’s much cooler and thus burns its fuel slower. while the largest stars we know of (hypergiants) last only millions of years, the smallest stars (red dwarfs) can last for trillions of years. seriously. trillions with a t.

i’ll probably do a comic about this some day, so i should shut up now before i spoil it.

there’s regular hating school, and then there’s building-an-entire-deep-space-radio-transmitter-level hating school. sedna leans more towards column b.

interestingly, i just checked through my onenote pages and it turns out i originally wrote this comic back in august 2017 for classic sedna (i had a really large reserve of draft comics, most of which sucked). it feels kinda weird seeing it actually being published after all that time.

hey mates! hope you all had a fun christmas and didn’t give your grandmothers covid.

i kinda like this comic. it’s simple but funny. and you could totally change the text in the first panel and turn it into a meme. if there are any young and in touch people reading this, you know what to do.

seriously, someone should totally do this story for real. it’s like the last samurai meets 300, but with aliens. i’m a little busy with another story at the moment though, so hollywood, if you’re reading this, i’m totally ready to sell out.

ninja sedna

well, now you know why i started this story arc with the last illustration. now i’m half tempted to write a spinoff series about the adventures of “sedna the space ninja”, a brave young girl warrior who travels the galaxy saving planets from the threat of destruction by an evil alien empire. quick, someone stop me before i talk myself into it!

primary school

finding reference images for aussie primary schools on google images is surprisingly hard, so it was lucky i thought to take some photos last time i went to my sisters’ school on parents’ day a few years ago.

to preemptively answer a few questions:
– yes, our desks are arranged like that.
– no, it’s actually a pretty great system. everyone else is doing it wrong.
– no, no one calls it elementary school except people who watch too much american tv.
– year 6 = 6th grade, but since the first grade is kindergarten it’s technically 7th grade.

“hey! complex geometric structures are fun to draw!” – said literally no-one ever.

oh no! tentacle aliens are attacking the sydney coathanger! but fear not civilian, ninja sedna is here to… poke holes in it i guess. ever wonder what would happen if aliens attacked a country that wasn’t the us or uk? or what it would look like if an iconic bridge that wasn’t the golden gate bridge got destroyed for once? well, wonder no more!

in hindsight, i probably should’ve picked an angle where you can see the opera house, because without it this could really be any lemon-slice-shaped bridge in the world.
