i usually use a star chart app to make sure the stars are accurate in each comic (based on where i live), and it just so happened that the twinkly “star” hovering over sedna’s room in the 4th panel is actually mars. i swear i didn’t plan it that way, that’s just where it happened to be when i drew this comic.
a happy little accident. (*´ω`*)

that’s right, we’re doing a school arc mates. apparently i still have some childhood trauma to work through or something, and this is as good an output as any. also, do kids in any other countries wear these wide-brim hats as part of their school uniform, or is it just an aussie thing?

look at me, actually drawing launch towers properly for once.

plugging some quick numbers into wolfram alpha, the energy required to propel a 100 metric tonne ship to 99% the speed of light is roughly 5.472×10^22 joules. this is equivalent to 1/9th the energy of the asteroid impact that killed the dinosaurs, or 225,000x the energy of the tsar bomba, the largest nuclear bomb in history. and that’s not even to mention the energy required to stop, come back, and stop again.

which is to say, sedna’s being a little optimistic in her dream here.

when i lived in japan there was someone living nearby who started their motorbike at around 5am every morning, so whenever i stayed up way too late playing strategy games or watching anime (which was pretty often considering my classes started at 12:50), that revving sound was what rudely let me know that i screwed up.

fast forward to when i’m back in australia thinking i’ve been freed of that accursed bike alarm, and alas, i forgot that all our damn birds start singing at 5am. it’s like the universe wants me to have a proper sleep schedule.

you can’t tell me what to do, universe! you’re not my mother!

bedtime routine

personally i read with my kindle every night as a way of making myself tired enough to fall asleep, but i have to read in my second language to give my brain some work to do. if i read in english i risk sailing through the book until suddenly i look up and it’s 9am the next morning.

i mean… not that i’ve ever done that before… ( ⚆ _ ⚆ )

well, that ends this little dinosaur storyline. it’s not easy making an engaging comic out of a biology/geology lesson, but i hope you all enjoyed it. expect wholesome space comics to resume again shortly. :D

k-pg extinction

maybe the reason dini always looks a little down is that he’s having a perpetual existential crisis over the fact that him being alive is a direct result of the dinosaurs being dead. life can be a bit of a cruel irony sometimes.

sidenote, if the phanerozoic eon was a movie trilogy, i’m pretty sure the movies would be named:
paleozoic: rise of the animals
mesozoic: the dinosaurs strike back
cenozoic: return of the mammals
