of course, if it’s supernovae we’re talking about then in a way they actually are our ancestors, but that’s a comic for another time. no seriously, it’s exactly 12 comics from now. mark your calendars lads.

it’s sad that some people can’t appreciate stars without applying some weird personification or spiritual meaning to them. i mean come on, they’re colossal billion-year-old nuclear hellfire deathballs! what could possibly be more awesome than that?

dad: you know sedna, every star up there is one of our ancestors watching over us.
sedna: actually they’re burning balls of hydrogen and helium.

dad: okay, but those balls used to be people before they died.
sedna: but how? most stars are billions of years old, and humans have only existed for two hundred thousand years.

dad: look, the point is, the stars are always watching you. like, see that bright one over there?
sedna: sirius? it’s over eight light years away. it could only see earth from before i was born.

dad: …it’s telling me you haven’t finished your english homework yet.
sedna: but sound doesn’t travel through-… oh.
